Reflecting pool will be emptied after Independence Day because of damage.

Study finds that CNN provided almost 7 hours of coverage on the DC Reflecting Pool.

Recently released court documents indicate that the National Park Service (NPS) intends to drain the reflecting pool, which was previously thought to be damaged beyond repair, after the Independence Day festivities for necessary repairs.

On June 9, U.S. Park Police were called to address damage to the pool, according to Frank Lands, the NPS Deputy Director of Operations. He noted that the pool had been vandalized, with a foam sealant cut by what appeared to be a sharp object and significant damage to the surface material. In addition, around 70 fence post tops were found thrown into the pool.

The NPS plans to commence repairs shortly after July 4, focusing on assessing the lining’s damage among other issues.

This damage comes in the wake of extensive renovations ordered by President Trump. Several large gatherings are anticipated in D.C. for Independence Day, which celebrates the 250th anniversary of the United States. However, plans for these celebrations have faced complications, including messages like “8647” appearing on the National Mall, along with a disturbing phrase written in blood on the Washington Monument.

Interior Department officials cited multiple sightings of “8647,” which they have interpreted as a political threat; the reasoning seems to be that “86” signifies denial of service, while “47” refers to Trump as the 47th president.

There have also been claims of individuals linked to a Democratic Party fundraiser vandalizing the pool. In a separate incident, a person reportedly used their blood to scrawl a threatening message on the Washington Monument, according to police reports.

Despite the chaos, seven individuals were arrested for tampering with the pool, and others received citations; a total of 18 complaints were lodged with law enforcement. The U.S. Park Police have requested assistance from the public in identifying a suspect seen near the reflecting pool during these incidents.

The White House issued a statement calling the vandalism a targeted act of sabotage and labeled the offenders as individuals harboring contempt for the nation.

These events highlight a growing concern around national pride, with recent polls suggesting that U.S. patriotism is at an all-time low, which has been described as “tearing society apart.”

The White House condemned the vandalism as a premeditated attack on a significant national symbol, expressing outrage over the actions of those involved.
