Matt Miller has opened up about his upcoming surgery following a serious accident that led to the loss of his left arm.
On Friday morning, the ESPN NFL Draft analyst shared that he’s prepared for a significant surgery. He noted the procedure is crucial to determine if his shoulder can be reconstructed to accommodate a prosthetic arm. “Thank you for your continued thoughts and prayers,” he expressed on X.
Miller first shared the accident’s details on Tuesday, explaining that he had been involved in a severe car crash in Missouri and had to be airlifted to Mercy Hospital. He conveyed deep gratitude for the care he received from first responders, doctors, and other medical staff, stating, “I feel so fortunate to be able to write this.”
He described the injuries he sustained from the accident, including multiple fractures and broken ribs. “I underwent surgery to save my life by having my left arm amputated,” he continued. “There’s a long way to go, but I’m focused on my recovery, taking it one day at a time.”
The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon in Jasper County, with KOAM News reporting that Miller’s 2023 Ford Bronco crossed the center line on Route 96 and collided with a semi-truck, which fortunately did not injure the truck driver.
Additional details were revealed through a GoFundMe post that outlined Miller’s injuries: a compound fracture in his left femur, a shattered left kneecap, broken ribs, and severe bleeding. “To save his life, doctors made an emergency amputation of his left arm. Remarkably, his head, neck, and spine were not seriously injured,” the post stated.
Currently, at 42 years old, Miller remains in the ICU, having already undergone surgery on his left leg. He has two children, Haley and Emmitt, as noted in his ESPN biography.
With a background of over 11 years as lead NFL Draft writer for Bleacher Report, Miller has spent the last five years at ESPN, now serving as a year-round draft analyst.
