The Dodgers and Padres are set to kick off a three-game series at Petco Park on June 26.
This matchup, expected to showcase National League West rivals, seems to reveal an interesting twist: Padres fans actually outpace Dodgers fans when it comes to drinking.
A recent survey by the Action Network, which involved around 3,500 fans across the U.S., looked into which MLB fan base enjoyed the most beverages before and during games. The results clearly showed that Padres supporters significantly outdrank their Dodger counterparts.
Padres fans ranked 10th in the league for the average number of drinks consumed during games. About 2.69% of them had at least one drink during a game, with 9.2% indulging in five or more.
On the flip side, Dodgers fans averaged only 1.7 drinks per game, which is tied for 24th in the league. While 67% of them enjoyed at least one drink during the game, a mere 4.9% consumed five or more, making for a stark contrast.
Interestingly, Padres fans also drink more before the game, averaging 1.3 drinks pre-game, placing them fifth in MLB in that category. Half of the supporters have at least one drink before heading into the stadium, and about 8.40% arrive having already had five or more.
Dodgers fans, contrastingly, average just 0.9 drinks before a game, tied for 22nd in the league. Only 37% have had at least one drink upon arrival, and 5% come in having had five or more drinks before the first pitch.
So, no matter how this weekend’s series unfolds, it’s clear that Padres fans come out on top in the drinking department. Ultimately, though, Petco Park seems to be the main beneficiary here.
