The recent violent incident involving Caitlin Clark highlights the true issue within the WNBA.

Since her debut in the WNBA with the Indiana Fever in 2024, Caitlin Clark has faced a staggering number of flagrant fouls—around 17% of all such fouls in the league during her rookie season alone.

Sadly, this trend has continued into her second and third professional seasons. On June 24, in a game against the Phoenix Mercury, Clark was part of one of the most serious incidents so far. While driving to the basket, she slipped, resulting in a scramble for the ball.

In the chaos, Phoenix’s Alyssa Thomas made contact with Clark’s throat and neck area with a closed fist as Clark was on the floor, which also involved a knee to her thigh or groin area. Surprisingly, no foul was called initially, which led to a strong outcry from Fever coach Stephanie White. After a review, the WNBA classified it as a Major Foul 2 for “reckless” contact, and Thomas received a one-game suspension for it.

On the show “Pat Gray Unleashed,” hosts Pat, Keith Marinak, and Jeffy discussed how this latest incident reflects a troubling reality within the WNBA.

Keith remarked, “The violence against Caitlin won’t stop until she dies on the court,” highlighting the urgent need for her to explore other leagues.

Pat shared his outrage over the ongoing violence targeted at Clark. “She brought attention to a league that was virtually ignored before. No one cared!” he pointed out.

He questioned, “Why aren’t there fines or expulsion for these actions? At least suspensions should happen. Something should change.”

Producer Chris Kurtz offered a theory that sheds light on deeper issues within the WNBA. Despite Clark being viewed as one of the greatest in women’s basketball early in her career, he pointed out that she is “white” and “heterosexual,” contrasting with the predominantly black and lesbian demographic of the league’s players.
