The circumstances surrounding the death of a mixed martial arts fighter and mother of two, who was found unresponsive in a car at San Jose State University, remain unclear as officials have yet to disclose the cause of death.
On Thursday, the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office confirmed the identities of the deceased as 36-year-old Angelo Henry and 30-year-old Desiree Auelua-Misa, weeks after they were discovered inside a vehicle parked at the University West Garage located at the intersection of South Fourth Street and East San Salvador Street.
This unfortunate situation came to light on May 23, when concerns arose after the two remained motionless in their car for several hours.
University Police Lt. Jermaine Thomas noted that the vehicle had been observed earlier in the day, but at that time, authorities thought the occupants might just be taking a nap.
It was only after a prolonged period without any movement that the alarm was raised.
San Jose State University staff attempted to perform life-saving actions, but sadly, both Henry and Auelua-Misa were declared dead at the scene.
As it stands, the cause of death is still under investigation, and no further details have been released.
Henry, originally from Seaside in Monterey County, had a local reputation as both a mixed martial arts fighter and a promoter. Auelua-Misa, also hailing from Seaside, worked as a food and beverage manager for a hotel.
Both individuals were parents.
A GoFundMe campaign initiated by Auelua-Misa’s sister has successfully raised over $24,000 towards its $30,000 goal. Auelua-Misa leaves two children behind, who will benefit from the donations.
“While our family is grieving her loss, we’re also coming together to ensure her baby experiences love, stability, and support through this incredibly tough time,” her sister shared.
