Controversy Surrounds California Senator During Trans March

Democratic Senator Scott Wiener, a leading candidate in the race to succeed Nancy Pelosi, faced significant backlash during a transgender march in San Francisco this past Friday. A group of masked activists, clad in black, surrounded him, shouting obscenities as he attempted to exit the event.

One individual filming the incident praised Wiener for his support of transgender legislation but quickly turned critical. “You were terrible, you were terrible in Gaza,” they yelled, adding, “Scott, you’re not here anymore. And it breaks my heart.”

Dimitry Yakushkin, who shared a portion of the confrontation, tweeted about the incident, writing, “Scott Wiener showed up at a transgender march and we kicked his a- out for the first time.”

The crowd’s anger stemmed from accusations directed at Wiener, who is Jewish, of endorsing “genocide in Gaza.” As they retreated, they shouted harsh criticisms including, “we fucking hate you.” One bystander lamented, “How can San Francisco do that?”

The tension for Wiener didn’t end there. Just two days prior, activist Jesús “Frisco Lens” Coba confronted him at the Napper Tandy Irish Bar during a World Cup match, urging him to reconsider his stance on the situation in Palestine. “Wiener, stop it, brother,” Coba insisted. “This is a free Palestine. You already know what it is. We are against genocide.” The video quickly garnered over 198,000 views on Instagram within a day.

Notably, Wiener had been hesitant to label Israeli military actions as genocide until changing his position in January. This contentious episode arrives as he vies for Pelosi’s congressional seat. After a strong showing in the June primary, he is set to challenge Pelosi-endorsed candidate Connie Chung in the upcoming November election.
