Katy Perry Cancels Festival Performance in Belgium Due to Weather

Katy Perry had to cancel her appearance at the Werchter Boutique in Belgium after officials called off the outdoor event, citing unsafe weather conditions.

In an Instagram post, the pop star expressed her disappointment, stating that she had “no choice” in the cancellation. She felt really let down that the performance couldn’t go ahead as planned.

“Unfortunately, my set tonight is not possible as the government has ordered a cancellation due to the upcoming inclement weather and concerns for audience safety,” she wrote.

She was backstage, in the midst of hair and makeup, when she learned the news. “I’m just as unhappy as you,” she said, reflecting the disappointment felt by many fans.

Perry emphasized that the safety of the large audience—about 55,000 people—was the top priority. “It’s unfortunate that we can’t change the weather, but it’s even more disappointing that we can’t all be together tonight,” she lamented.

She reminisced about her long-awaited return to the venue after 17 years, saying she had even thought about wearing the same outfit from her 2009 show. “We love you all, and please go home safely,” she added, reaching out to her fans.

Originally, this performance was going to be her first return to the Festival Park Werchter since her concert there in July 2009, part of her debut solo tour.

Perry also shared a photo from backstage, dressed in a white robe over striped pants, next to an unused stage costume. Her set was supposed to start after Pitbull’s performance earlier that evening.

The official statement from the festival noted that due to severe weather forecasts, they decided to end the event early for everyone’s safety. They highlighted that the governor of Flanders-Brabant had also issued an alert regarding the weather.

Just weeks earlier, Perry had performed at the FIFA World Cup Opening Ceremony in Los Angeles, where she debuted her new song “Wonder.” That event marked a significant moment for her as she shared the stage with a young singer, Tius.

Next up, Perry is scheduled to perform at Cardiff Castle’s DEPOT Live as part of Wales’ summer concert series, continuing her tour around Europe.
