Jane Seymour’s Surprising Fitness Confession at 75
Jane Seymour recently shared some insights about her fitness routine at the age of 75.
Her approach, developed over decades, emphasizes movement, moderation, and understanding one’s limits.
The star of “Harry Wilde” noted that she tends to shy away from yoga, humorously stating she feels “too type A” and often finds herself trying to outperform others in her classes.
“For fitness, I usually mix in light weights, walking—brisk walking when I can—along with some hill workouts. I also do Pilates and gyrotonics. If I skip those, I’ll do sit-ups or ballet exercises,” she explained. “I go back to my ballet roots and generally stick to a Mediterranean diet. I steer clear of starchy foods, but not entirely, because I never want to feel like I’m on a diet. I drink very little alcohol and avoid it altogether while filming.”
Seymour believes the essence of staying active lies not in chasing every new fitness trend, but rather in recognizing your own capabilities.
“When I’ve attended group classes, especially yoga, I had to remind myself I can’t push too hard because I’m quite competitive… I mean, I often thought I could twist myself into a pretzel like someone else. But realistically, I know I’d just end up injuring myself. So, my approach is to explore different workouts but always listen to my body,” she added.
This philosophy contributes to Seymour’s vibrant energy. Her longtime friend and former co-star, Joe Land, can attest to that.
More than three decades after they became a beloved duo on television, they recently reunited for the fifth season of “Harry Wilde.” This season promises bigger mysteries and new characters that could complicate Harry’s romantic life.
Seymour plays the role of Harriet “Harry” Wilde and also serves as an executive producer on the series.
Their friendship has endured over the years, grounded in the connection they built while filming the iconic Western drama.
When asked about their lasting bond, Seymour reflected, “That’s an interesting question. We spent seven years working together, and there was a brief period where we fell in love during the pilot. But we truly got to know each other better than what viewers saw on screen.”
Although they eventually realized friendship was best, one aspect of Seymour has remained consistent since her time on “Dr. Quinn,” according to Land.
“That relentless energy,” he remarked. “She just keeps going.”
Comparing her to the Energizer Bunny, he recalled how she managed long filming days while pregnant with twins.
“Here I was, 45 and pregnant with twins, sometimes working over 12 hours a day. I’d feel fatigued and look over—to see her still at it. I knew I had to pull myself together. That energy hasn’t waned.”
For Seymour, her energetic spirit stems simply from her passion for her work.
When asked about her stamina, Seymour replied without hesitation, “People often ask, and I just say it’s because I love what I do. I jump in, and when I’m done, I sleep.”
The fifth season of “Harry Wilde” will be available for streaming on Acorn TV.
