Trump: Meeting with Iran scheduled for Tuesday in Qatar

Trump Announces Talks with Iran Following Regional Tensions

President Donald Trump revealed that discussions with Iran are scheduled for Tuesday in Qatar. This follows recent escalations between the U.S. and Iran.

“IRAN HAS REQUESTED A MEETING. IT WILL TAKE PLACE TOMORROW IN DOHA!” Trump stated on Truth Social on Monday morning.

Trump’s message comes in the wake of heightened conflict at the Strait of Hormuz. Just last Thursday and Saturday, Iran reportedly attacked two commercial oil tankers using drones, as indicated by U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM). In response, the U.S. targeted various locations within Iran, including missile storage and air defense systems.

Compounding the situation, Iran has also launched strikes against neighboring Gulf states like Kuwait and Bahrain, allegedly targeting U.S. military-related sites, according to the Iranian state news agency IRNA.

These recent hostilities have strained the ceasefire established by a memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed on June 17, with peace talks expected to have started the following Sunday in Switzerland.

Earlier last week, Secretary of State Marco Rubio noted that technical talks between the U.S. and Iran would likely continue on June 29 or 30, with Switzerland being a probable meeting location.
