Santa Claus Arrested in Undercover Sting

There’s something unsettling about this whole situation. A man in New Orleans, legally named Santa Claus, found himself in trouble during an undercover operation aimed at catching child predators. He reportedly attempted to meet what he thought was a 15-year-old boy for sexual purposes.

At 75 years old, Kraus resembles the jolly figure of St. Nick — long white beard and all. He’s among 11 individuals arrested on child exploitation charges following this weekend’s operation, and authorities expect to apprehend 10 more in the near future.

Kenner Police Chief Keith Conley commented on the case, emphasizing, “All of these defendants are a danger to our youth and our community.” He further noted, “We talk about the vulnerabilities children face on social media and gaming apps, and now we have someone who dressed as Santa and encouraged parents to let their kids sit on his lap. This serves as a warning to parents and guardians.”

Kraus allegedly used a dating app to engage in conversation with someone he believed to be a minor, but it turned out to be an undercover officer. Police reports say he had explicit conversations regarding sexual acts and arranged a meeting in Kenner, located about 13 miles from New Orleans, where detectives arrested him.

He faces charges related to lewd conduct and soliciting a minor via a computer. Conley reiterated the seriousness of online child exploitation, stating, “Those who use the anonymity of the internet to exploit children need to understand one thing: So do we. Our investigators are committed to tracking down these predators and bringing them to justice before they can harm any children.”

Interestingly, it’s not just Kraus in the spotlight. Other individuals arrested during this sting include:

  • Jonathan Akers (31, New Orleans)
  • Francisco Amaya Pagada (48, Baton Rouge)
  • Christopher Fava (45, Metairie)
  • Mario Herrera-Zeredon (44, Kenner)
  • Jamal Landry (34, New Orleans)
  • Carlos Lopez Reyes (29, Kenner)
  • Michael Lusteau (23, Luling City)
  • Johnny Pierre (31, New Orleans)
  • Faustino Saraniksam (57, Kenner)
  • Melvin Walker (43, Pascagoula, Mississippi)

It’s worth mentioning that Kraus isn’t the only Santa in recent controversies. In April, a 68-year-old man in Florida was arrested after he allegedly offered $200 to the parents of a 13-year-old girl for sex, claiming to have had “thousands of children” on his lap over the years. Ironically, those parents were also undercover agents as part of an internet sex sting.
