Tragic Incident at Plantation Daycare
A 23-month-old boy was tragically found dead in an SUV outside the World of Discovery Academy in Plantation, Florida, on Monday. Authorities reported that the child’s father mistakenly thought he had dropped his son off at daycare.
Emergency services were called to the Early Childhood Education Center around 5:39 p.m. after a report of an unresponsive child in a vehicle. Unfortunately, firefighters pronounced the child dead at the scene.
Leslie Novoa, the academy’s owner, shared the heartbreak of the situation. She mentioned how both she and the father called 911 upon discovering the child in the back seat of their SUV. “This is hard for the parents and hard for us,” Novoa stated, expressing sadness about the family’s suffering.
Upon arriving at the daycare to pick up his son, the father realized that he had never actually dropped him off in the first place. “He unfortunately forgot his child,” Novoa explained. “It’s incredibly sad.” She described the family as loving and mentioned they had been part of the community for six years, with three kids enrolled at the daycare.
The nursery later issued a statement offering condolences and pledged to support the family during this difficult time. “Our primary responsibility is the safety and well-being of our students and their families,” the school stated.
According to Kids and Car Safety, each year in the United States, roughly 40 children die from being left in hot cars, with many of these incidents happening when parents accidentally forget their kids are inside. The Plantation Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
