FBI official indicates Nancy Guthrie ransom notes are likely genuine: report

Investigation into Nancy Guthrie impacted by initial mistakes, according to law enforcement specialist

Investigation Update on Nancy Guthrie’s Case

Recent reports suggest that the ransom demands related to the kidnapping of Nancy Guthrie, who is 84 years old, might still be credible, even though there are conflicting opinions among investigators.

According to sources familiar with the case, there seems to be a divide regarding the authenticity of the ransom notes. Some officials shared with TMZ that there is doubt about whether the ransom requests are “legitimate.”

TMZ’s executive producer Harvey Levin mentioned that an unnamed FBI official indicated that while some investigators are skeptical about the ransom notes being genuine, others are not completely ready to dismiss them. Levin quoted the official saying, “They’re not legitimate.”

There has been some back-and-forth, as federal law enforcement mixed opinions on this matter. Some believe all the demands are false, while others feel it’s unwise to make any definitive conclusions while Nancy’s whereabouts remain uncertain.

The first two ransom notes are thought to be probably real, but officials haven’t confirmed either their authenticity or the legitimacy of unrelated emails claiming to know more about Nancy’s situation.

Savannah Guthrie, Nancy’s daughter, expressed her belief that at least two of the ransom notes could indeed be authentic, and she, along with her brother, reacted to video content posted in February relating to their mother’s disappearance.

Despite the ongoing speculation, both state and local officials have chosen not to share further details regarding these ransom demands. When asked for comments, FBI Director Kash Patel maintained a cautious approach, stating the FBI continues to support the investigation but refraining from discussing specifics.

The investigation led by Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos emphasizes that the FBI is taking the lead on the ransom notes, asserting that such matters are consistently managed by federal authorities. He urged anyone with tips about Nancy’s case to reach out to the FBI or Tucson’s Crime Stoppers. Here’s hoping for some positive news soon.
