German soccer fans’ trips to the U.S. continue after World Cup defeat
Kayleigh McEnany discusses Freddie, a German soccer fan, whose American tour continues despite Germany’s loss in the World Cup. He’s been asking locals for suggestions on how to spend his unexpected three-week stay. Meanwhile, Emily Compagno recounted the unusual experience of watching a World Cup shootout alongside delivery drivers while celebrating Paraguay’s winning goal in New York City.
One of the best things about the World Cup is witnessing fans enjoying themselves to the fullest. There were some standout players—shout out to the Tartan Army—but perhaps nobody celebrates quite like Mexico.
Having experienced the 2014 World Cup between Mexico and Brazil at a bar in Cancun, it’s clear that Mexican fans inject unmatched passion and joy into their celebrations.
On Tuesday night, Mexico, after playfully giving Ecuador a hard time at their hotel the previous night, secured a victory in a Round of 32 match at Mexico City Stadium. This marked their first knockout stage win since 1986.
If that’s not reason to celebrate, I’m not sure what is.
And how else to celebrate than with two women in the middle of the road, clad in boxing mitts, shedding tears for each other? Honestly, I can’t think of a better way—though I might be tempted to dive into a cotton candy machine, but that’s beside the point.
At first glance, it seemed like these two might know a thing or two about boxing. But after the first punch, it became pretty obvious that it was likely their first experience with boxing gloves.
Clearly, player number 22 won the match, but I doubt anyone felt like a loser in Mexico last night; the atmosphere was just electric.
The celebrations won’t last forever—or maybe they will; who can say for sure?—as Mexico faces a major game against England, who managed to overcome the Democratic Republic of the Congo to step into the Round of 16.
This match is set to occur on July 5th at the Mexico City Stadium.
