Gary Glitter Charged with New Sexual Offenses
Paul Gadd, the 82-year-old British pop icon better known as Gary Glitter, faces serious legal issues, having been charged by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) with “unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl under the age of 13 and three counts of indecent assault against a girl under 14.” This information comes from a statement released by CPS.
According to Bethan David, the deputy chief prosecutor for CPS London, this decision follows allegations made by a woman about abusive incidents that are said to have taken place between 1978 and 1981. David emphasized the effort put into gathering sufficient evidence to move forward with the case, mentioning collaboration with the Metropolitan Police as they investigated. She also reminded the public that the legal process is ongoing and that defendants are entitled to a fair trial.
Glitter is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5, 2026, for his first hearing concerning these new charges.
This isn’t the first time Glitter has faced such accusations. Back in 1999, he was found in possession of child sexual abuse material and received a four-month prison sentence. In the early 2000s, he was deported from Cambodia amid suspicions of sexual misconduct. Then in 2006, he was convicted in Vietnam for the abuse of young girls, in a case that also led to his imprisonment and eventual deportation to the UK.
In the UK, Glitter was arrested again in 2012 and later convicted in 2015 on charges that included attempted rape and indecent assault involving minors. He served 16 years behind bars and was released on probation in 2023. However, just a month later, he was again incarcerated for violating probation conditions by attempting to access the dark web. He remains detained following this latest indictment.
Glitter is perhaps best remembered for his hit “Rock and Roll Part 2,” featuring prominently in his flashy performances that included his famous silver suit and platform shoes. Another well-known song of his is “Do You Wanna Touch Me? (Oh Yeah!).”
