UFC Freedom 250 Event at the White House a Great Success
The UFC’s Freedom 250 event, held at the White House, proved to be a remarkable success. Following the record-breaking fight that became the most-viewed in UFC history, UFC president Dana White is basking in the accolades.
White appeared on “The Will Cain Show” recently to discuss the success of the UFC Festival, which took place on June 14 on the South Lawn of the White House.
While die-hard UFC fans reveled in the main event, many others were fascinated by the extraordinary spectacle happening steps away from the presidential residence. White shared with Cain that the real-life events unfolded in ways Hollywood could hardly depict. “If you wrote the screenplay, everything that happens in this movie would be unbelievable,” he remarked.
A clip from the documentary showcased President Donald Trump during the initial planning stages of the project. The president, known for his construction background, envisioned a significant outdoor setup to maximize seating.
In talking about the plans, Trump emphasized, “If we had an 8,000-person arena here, we could do something nice there, stand-up or seated, around the fountain.” He requested the construction of a grand stage on the lawn, navigating the historic challenges posed by the terrain.
Trump described his vision as perfect for the White House’s front entrance, wanting it as expansive as possible despite the constraints posed by the trees and landscaping.
White acknowledged that Trump’s involvement sped up the logistical aspects of organizing the event. “Yeah, he was the one who kept pushing us harder and harder to get more seats and get people in there,” he said. They essentially built a stadium on the South Lawn—though he felt the setup on the Ellipse was even more impressive given the circumstances and attendance.
According to UFC reports, the Freedom 250 broke records as the most-watched domestic event in UFC history, attracting an astounding 34 million viewers globally. The Fan Fest at the Ellipse welcomed an estimated 85,000 fans.
One of the most astonishing aspects of the event came from the weather. White recounted how a storm approached the White House and inexplicably broke apart, allowing the event to proceed smoothly. “It was an incredible, amazing night,” he remarked.
Initially, things seemed troubled when thunderstorms struck Washington, leading to the postponement of a press conference at the Lincoln Memorial on Friday. However, despite the challenges, the entire effort turned out to be a huge win for everyone involved.
White concluded, “And with the weather, wind, and rain, all against the unknown, the event couldn’t have gone any better.”
