A recent increase in salaries for Beverly Hills police officers has caught attention.
The Beverly Hills Police Department shared news on social media highlighting their officers’ salaries, which rank among the highest in the nation.
Starting salaries for BHPD officers begin at $118,118 annually, rising to $146,749 for more experienced officers. For those meeting specific educational and duty requirements, the top salary can reach as high as $189,326.
This is, of course, before considering overtime pay.
These salary increases are part of a $695.2 million budget recently approved by the Beverly Hills City Council. The budget for 2026-27 allocates $124.9 million to the BHPD, reflecting a 6.8% increase.
Conversely, the fire department will receive $64.1 million, which is just a slight rise of 0.2 percent.
Mayor Craig Corman expressed his optimism regarding the budget, saying, “I think this is a responsible budget, it’s conservative, and it’s a roadmap to keep us on a fiscally sound path.”
On Friday, BHPD took to Instagram to announce their new salary increases. Starting July 1, salaries will increase by 6%, followed by another 5% hike on July 1, 2027, and a final 5% jump on July 1, 2028.
This agreement, ratified on November 24 between the city and the Beverly Hills Police Officers Association, also provides additional pay increases for officers with advanced degrees and certifications.
Moreover, BHPD officers will enjoy increased paid time off, now with a maximum of 220 hours per year, up from 160 hours.
Interestingly, while BHPD salaries are significantly higher than many across the country, they still fall short compared to the larger Los Angeles Police Department, where starting salaries are around $86,192. It raises a question: is it enough to afford living in Beverly Hills?
Living costs in this upscale area are notably high, sitting at 160% above the national average. With median home prices around $3.5 million and rents averaging about $10,513 per month, the financial strain is apparent.
The median household income in Beverly Hills is $135,064—significantly higher than the national figure of $83,181.
To live comfortably in Beverly Hills, experts suggest an income between $200,000 and $300,000.
For context, nationwide stats show the average police officer’s salary is $77,270, with the top 10% earning over $120,460.
