Shooting Incident at Fairlane Town Center Mall in Dearborn
At least two individuals have lost their lives in a serious shooting that occurred on Friday afternoon at the Fairlane Town Center Mall in Dearborn, Michigan.
Police Chief Issa Shahin confirmed the fatalities and reported that an innocent bystander was also shot during the incident. According to reports, one of the victims sustained a head injury while the other was shot in the abdomen.
Details about the suspect have not been disclosed yet, but Shahin clarified that this shooting was “not a random act of violence.” He explained, “A fight broke out in the mall between two groups that knew each other, and it escalated quickly. There was gunfire.” It appears that both parties involved may have been armed. Investigators are speaking with multiple witnesses to gather more context regarding the fight’s escalation.
As law enforcement continued their investigation, the Dearborn Police Department issued an emergency alert on social media, asking everyone to stay away from the area until they can secure the situation.
The department emphasized, “We are advising both residents and visitors to avoid the area while officers work on the scene and the investigation is underway.” Officials also mentioned that the mall would remain closed for several hours to facilitate their investigations.
Shahin expressed his dismay over the incident, stating, “Such acts of violence are completely unacceptable. It’s unthinkable that something like this could take place in a public setting, like a mall where families are shopping.”
The Michigan State Police have also stepped in to assist with the case.
