Mayor’s Independence Day Message on Immigration Sparks Controversy
Zoran Mamdani, the socialist Muslim mayor of New York City, chose to focus on the challenges faced by undocumented immigrants during his Fourth of July address. It seems he spread quite a bit of misinformation about the situation while overlooking the victims impacted by illegal immigration under the Biden administration.
Mamdani expressed his concerns about America’s issues, emphasizing his apparent care for those in the country illegally. He painted a vivid picture of “masked agents terrorizing the streets, eating food made by our undocumented neighbors before whisking them away in unmarked vans,” referring to ICE’s efforts to detain illegal immigrants who have committed crimes.
What he failed to mention is that most people apprehended by ICE have been charged or found guilty of offenses in the U.S., rather than innocent grandparents just making snacks.
His criticisms of law enforcement targeting illegal immigrants with serious criminal records raises questions about the balance between protection and a perceived overreach of authority.
Yet, he maintained a somewhat positive tone, stating, “We view America each time ICE collaborates with our neighbors as they invade our neighborhoods without inquiring about their length of stay or documentation.”
Despite Mamdani’s assertion that Americans oppose deportations of unlawful immigrants, recent surveys indicate that a significant number actually support such actions. This is perhaps unsurprising, considering recent reports by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which detailed numerous arrests of illegal aliens for serious crimes like “aggravated manslaughter, lewd acts with a child, and methamphetamine distribution.”
In Stockton, California, Jorge Heriberto García Zabalza, originally from Mexico, faced legal consequences for crimes against a minor. Similarly, Reynaldo Fuentes Jimenez, also undocumented from Mexico, was convicted of aggravated manslaughter in New Jersey.
Another case involved Roberto Bravo-Camacho, who was found guilty in Teton County, Idaho, on multiple charges related to video voyeurism and evidence tampering.
Press releases have highlighted other illegal immigrants charged with various offenses, including crimes against children. Lauren Biss, Acting DHS Assistant Secretary, stated, “Yesterday, ICE arrested murderers, pedophiles, sex offenders, drug traffickers, and other illegal aliens convicted of heinous crimes.” She added that, due to President Trump’s initiatives, ICE has bolstered its ranks by adding 12,000 new officers dedicated to removing dangerous individuals from society. Approximately 70% of ICE arrests involve illegal aliens with criminal charges or convictions.
Regardless, Mamdani expressed that those in positions of power perceive that welcoming more individuals might diminish America’s stature. He voiced discontent with a viewpoint suggesting that America should be exclusive to those with certain accents or skin colors, portraying it as a narrow-minded and unoriginal stance.
