Paul Pelosi Faces Charges in Napa County Incident
Paul Pelosi has been charged with a hit-and-run after allegedly colliding his convertible with a parked car in the Napa Valley region of California.
According to the Napa County Sheriff’s Office, officers responded to a 911 call regarding the incident on July 3 at about 2:30 p.m. Witnesses reported seeing a brown convertible driving north when it hit a legally parked vehicle, damaging it significantly before fleeing the scene.
Law enforcement later found the damaged convertible not far from the crash site at Yountville Crossroads, where it was partially abandoned. A California Highway Patrol officer was already there when they arrived. Upon identifying the driver as 86-year-old Pelosi through his driver’s license, he mentioned that he knew he had hit something but couldn’t quite recall what it was. Interestingly, a roadside breath test indicated a 0.00 alcohol level, implying that alcohol was likely not a factor in the incident.
Interestingly, the deputies did not arrest Pelosi, which they stated is standard procedure for such misdemeanors under state law. They have referred the case to the Napa County district attorney for consideration of the misdemeanor charge related to property damage and suggested a reevaluation of his driving capabilities through the Department of Motor Vehicles, a common step for elderly drivers.
Pelosi’s spokesperson noted that he had personally apologized to the owner of the parked car and promised to take responsibility for the damage. They also mentioned that Pelosi would not comment further on the matter.
It’s worth noting that Pelosi, who is married to former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, has faced legal troubles before. In 2022, he pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor drunk driving charge for crashing his Porsche, resulting in a five-day jail sentence and three years of probation. He only served one day through a court service program. Additionally, his home was the scene of a violent intrusion some months later, where an assailant seeking his wife severely injured her.
