According to reports, former Jets defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson was arrested and charged in New Jersey on December 22 with drunk driving and illegal possession of a loaded handgun. Court documents obtained by TMZ.
Wilkerson, 34, was reportedly pulled over in Morris County at 6:41 a.m., and when police searched his vehicle, they found an open bottle of Don Julio tequila; An FN 509 tactical handgun with 11 rounds of hollow point ammunition was found inside.
Police said in documents that Wilkerson's car smelled of alcohol and he failed a field sobriety test.
The former Pro Bowl pass rusher told police he was coming from a club in New York City when he was pulled over, according to court documents.
Police said Wilkerson bought the gun in Florida but did not provide the proper documentation.
Wilkerson's court date in the case is February.
The Linden native was arrested for drunk driving in 2020 and 2019.
The Temple product was drafted by the Jets in the first round (30th overall) of the 2011 NFL Draft and spent most of his eight seasons in New York.
He recorded 44.5 sacks in his career and was named second-team All-Pro in 2013 and 2015.
After being released by the Jets, Wilkerson signed a one-year contract with the Green Bay Packers in 2018.
He appeared in just three games with the Packers before suffering a season-ending ankle injury.
Wilkerson has never signed with another team.
