Washington vs. Texas prediction: Longhorns the pick

Game 2 of the College Football Playoff semifinals begins Monday night between the Texas Longhorns and Washington Huskies at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.

Washington won the Pac-12 Championship this season with a perfect 13-0 record.

The Huskies defeated Oregon 34-31 in the conference title game despite trailing by 9.5 points, marking their second win over the Ducks this season.

Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. threw for 4,218 yards, 33 touchdowns and nine interceptions as a member of the Heisman all season.

Texas has lost only one game this season, a last-minute loss to rival Oklahoma in October. The Longhorns were still able to defeat Oklahoma State 49-21 as a 14.5-point favorite to win the Big 12 title.

Texas' ability to advance to the College Football Playoff was questionable, but a win at Alabama in September likely cemented their place in the top four.

Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers missed two games due to injury, but still finished with 21 touchdown passes and 3,161 passing yards.

These teams will face each other in a bowl game for the second straight season, as Washington defeated Texas 27-20 in the 2022 Alamo Bowl as a three-point underdog. Penix threw two touchdown passes in Washington's win, while Ewers had 369 passing yards in the loss.

Washington is undefeated, but the Huskies are the underdogs in this neutral field game, as UW is 2-0 when scoring points this season.

Put points in this spot with Texas as the slight favorite to hand Washington its first loss and advance to the national championship in Houston.
