Rays’ Wander Franco arrested amid investigation into alleged relationships with minors: reports

tampa bay rays Shortstop Wander Franco was arrested in the Dominican Republic on Monday amid an investigation into allegations of inappropriate relationships with minors, according to multiple reports.

Franco, 22, was taken into custody after a three-hour interrogation with prosecutors, a Puerto Plata district prosecutor's office official told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

His arrest was only a few days after the incident. 2023 All Star He did not appear in court for a meeting with prosecutor Olga Dina Llaverias.

ESPN reported Police went to two houses in Franco's hometown of Bani, but they said he was not in either house. According to reports, he was arrested after failing to appear before a prosecutor.

Under Dominican law, he must appear before a judge within 24 hours.

Franco was placed on administrative leave on Aug. 22 as MLB investigated his alleged relationship with an underage girl. ESPN reports that at least two people have filed lawsuits against the baseball player, and sources say he is currently being investigated for an alleged relationship with a third minor.

Rays' Wander Franco summoned to Dominican authorities for alleged relationship with minor: Report

Franco's last fight was on August 12th. He was placed on administrative leave under MLB and the Players Association's joint domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse policy.

The Rays expressed support for MLB's investigation, but have not commented on the matter since.

Rays: “We support Major League Baseball's decision to place Wander Franco on administrative leave'' said at the time. “The Tampa Bay Rays are committed to maintaining high standards of integrity on and off the field. We appreciate the understanding and patience of our fans and supporters as this process unfolds. MLB completes the process. Until then, there will be no further statement on this matter.” ”

Franco was named an All-Star for the first time this season. He signed an 11-year, $182 million contract extension in November 2021, but with a team option in 2033, he could be worth $233 million at the end of his contract.

The Rays did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.
