South Korean opposition leader Lee Jae-myung was apparently stabbed on Tuesday while on a field trip to the southern port city of Busan. Yonhap News reported. According to Reuters.

An unknown man then allegedly approached Lee and stabbed him in the left side of his neck with a deadly weapon. The apparent attack prompted an immediate crowd reaction, and gasps could be heard. A group of people quickly pushed the man away and arrested him in a group on the street.

According to Reuters, the South Korean leader was taken to the hospital and additional unidentified suspects were arrested.
Mr. Lee is a member of the Democratic Party of Korea and plans to run for the National Assembly in the general election scheduled for April. according to To the BBC. According to the paper, Lee lost the 2022 presidential election to President Yoon Seok-yeol by a margin of 0.73 percentage points, but is expected to run in the next presidential election in 2027.
