A woman trapped in a car that was involved in an accident in Indiana was rescued after a mechanic on duty pinpointed the exact location of the accident scene with the help of police.
Police say officers and paramedics spent two hours driving the car after a woman was reported trapped in an overturned car with another adult woman around 3:40 a.m. on New Year's Day in Gary. It was announced that the search was unsuccessful. Associated Press.
One of the women eventually got out of the car and alerted a passerby, identified by WLS-TV as mechanic Greg Zellers, who ultimately led authorities to the scene of the accident, according to the Lake County Sheriff's Department. .
“She told me there was an accident and the car flipped over here and one of her friends got stuck in the car,” Zeller told the station. She spotted the woman and followed her about 50 meters away from the road. She said: “It was upside down. I couldn't see the headlights, I couldn't see the taillights. I couldn't see anything.”

“They asked me to stay until they got here,” he added. “I did, but then I had to go to work.”
Zellers told WLS-TV that the road along where the accident occurred is mostly empty except for trucks headed to a nearby steel mill.

Meanwhile, a woman trapped in the car told police she could no longer feel her legs and was airlifted to a hospital, according to the Associated Press.
Lake County Sheriff Oscar Martinez said he appreciates the efforts of passersby, two police officers and first responders who rescued the woman.
