Armed Robbery at Taco Bell, Ohio thwarted Police said an armed employee fired at the suspect, sending him to the hospital.
Akron Police said they were dispatched to a shooting at the Taco Bell in the 1400 block of South Arlington Street on Monday around 7:35 p.m.
Investigators said during the robbery, a 35-year-old suspect fired a gun at a 21-year-old employee, who returned fire and hit the suspect.
“The suspect fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money,” Akron police said in a statement.
The suspect was reportedly dropped off at SumaHealth Akron City Hospital shortly after with a gunshot wound to his upper body. Police said the man was seriously injured, but his condition is stable and his injuries are not life-threatening.
Police said the suspect was charged with robbery and other charges, but did not release his identity. Also arrested was a 33-year-old man named Rayshawn Bruce, who was charged with robbery after transporting the injured suspect to the hospital. He was booked into the Summit County Jail.
Police said they were able to recover the vehicle used in the incident and other evidence. No Taco Bell employees were injured.
“The investigation is ongoing and detectives are working to establish any links to other local robberies,” police said.
WOIO-TV reported that the fast food restaurant's doors and windows were boarded up, but the drive-thru was still open.
A similar incident at an Akron drive-thru a few weeks ago had a different story. tragic ending. The man is said to have shot and killed a drive-thru employee after he became angry that the employee would not accept his cash because it was in poor condition. The employee died, and the suspect was arrested a week later.
