Sterling Shepard knows his time as a Giant is coming to an end.
“For sure,” the wide receiver said Wednesday of accepting it. “I think everyone comes to this point at some point in their career.
“I think about how blessed I am to have been in the same place for eight years.”
Sheppard was drafted by the Giants in the second round out of Oklahoma State in 2016 and had solid performances in his first five seasons.
He hasn't received much playing time over the past two years, with just seven receptions for 39 yards and one touchdown this season.
Shepard has 369 receptions in his career and needs two more to tie him for fifth in franchise history with Jeremy Shockey.
Sheppard turns 31 next month and believes he can still play in the league.
“I've been coming to practice every week and I feel like myself and I feel really good,” Shepard said. “In matches, the number of times and everything is small, but I have never really shown it. [I] I didn't have a chance to show it off much. [Still playing is] Certainly, it's still on the table for me. ”
If that happens, the Giants won't be able to do it.
Shepard hasn't caught a pass since the Giants' win over New England on Nov. 26, and he hasn't caught a pass since his best season in 2018, when he had a career-high 66 receptions and 872 yards, and his rookie year. far cry. as Shepard scored a career-high eight touchdowns.
