Other cryptocurrencies stabilized on Thursday, but volatile trading is expected to continue ahead of the potential approval of an exchange-traded fund (ETF) linked to spot trading in the largest digital currency.

Bitcoin rose 2.2% in the past 24 hours to $43,395. The cryptocurrency soared above $45,000 on Tuesday before falling to $41,361 on Wednesday.

Most of the decline came shortly after crypto financial services platform Matrixport predicted on Wednesday that the Securities and Exchange Commission would deny all Bitcoin ETF spot applications in January.

The SEC has a January 10 deadline to decide whether to approve the Spot Bitcoin ETF application filed by ARK Invest and 21Shares. Last-minute doubts about ETF approval put a damper on Bitcoin's rally, but the cryptocurrency is up 56% in the past three months and the market believes the SEC is likely to give the fund the green light.
