Mets signing ex-Yankee Harrison Bader to $10.5 million contract

Harrison Bader is coming back to New York, not the Yankees.

The Mets and Bader agreed to a one-year, $10.5 million contract Thursday, the Post's Joel Sherman reported.

Bader, a 29-year-old from Bronxville, is a center fielder with excellent defense, but he has had a difficult season offensively, and was placed on waivers by the Yankees in late August, ending the season with the Reds. Ta.

Bader struggled to stay healthy while working in the Bronx.

Bader spent his first five-plus seasons with the Cardinals before the Yankees acquired center fielder Jordan Montgomery at the 2022 trade deadline.

The addition of Bader could allow the Mets to move Brandon Nimmo to corner. He started 126 games in center field and nine games in left field last season.

The 2021 Gold Glove winner played 98 regular season games with the Yankees in 2022 and 2023, hitting .237 with seven home runs, 46 RBIs and a .627 OPS.

The one-year, $10.5 million deal is the same deal the Blue Jays signed last week with AL Gold Glove winner Kevin Kiermaier.
