Phil Mickelson extends olive branch to PGA Tour amid Rory McIlroy stunning LIV reversal

Rory McIlroy's change of heart about LIV Golf became one of golf's biggest stories in four short days in 2024. The Brooks Koepkas teased his change in opinion, but one of the rival league's most prominent voices didn't.

Phil Mickelson loves Twitter. He likes to comment on everything. But this time, he left the excavation site at his home. Mickelson came to the side of the Northern Irishman. Call to action sent.

“This quote and many others Rory said today [McIlroy] That was probably easier said than done. Let's not use this as an opportunity to build on one another,” Mickelson wrote. “Rather, it's time for me and others to let go of our hostility and work towards a positive future.”

McIlroy explained how LIV Golf exposed weaknesses on the PGA Tour. He even criticized himself for criticizing others who participated in the Saudi circuit.

Mickelson acknowledges that, and his tweet should remind people of the bigger goal.

“The deal with Rahm is the bridge that brings them together, as you can see from the many comments today and a month ago about changing the Ryder Cup rules to allow John and others to play. Let’s take advantage of it,” he wrote. . “Until an agreement is reached, it will be business as usual for both parties, but we hope there will be no unnecessary disrespect.”

Ending division is the ultimate goal. The golf world needs to come together and find common ground because this kind of division is bad for the game. Perhaps that was part of the thinking behind McIlroy's comments, and perhaps Mickelson realized it after this tweet.

Unnecessary disrespect has existed since LIV Golf's launch two years ago. I wish there was some credence when one of the loudest voices in LIV said it should stop.
