Earlier this week, Rory McIlroy joined the English podcast stick to football And we talked about various topics. One of them, of course, was his disdain for LIV Golf and the rival circuit. However, that disdain appears to have disappeared as McIlroy changed his tune.
Thursday, Greg Norman answered Here's what the four-time major champion had to say on the LIV Golf Podcast.
“Honestly, I'm so grateful for Rory's words. The last few years have been painful,” Norman said.
“The reason I say I'm partly grateful that Rory fell on the sword is the fact that he judged us without knowing the facts. He judged us based on other people's thoughts and opinions. …I say, “Hey, thanks, Rory.” This is an important turning point for everyone. ”
Norman has long been outspoken in his belief in LIV and what it can do for the sport. He warned that a Saudi-funded golf tour would not work.
While McIlroy, PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan and others hinted at the end of the rival tour, Norman remained true to his beliefs.
The Australian legend isn't the only one to appreciate McIlroy's comments.
Late Wednesday night, Phil Mickelson took to his favorite platform: Twitter. He also sent a positive message to golf fans and golf players alike, taking the high road in hopes of a unified future for the sport.
Even Brooks Koepka and his wife, Jenna Sims, supported taking a different approach.
The self-imposed deadline for an agreement between the PGA Tour and the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) passed when the calendar turned to 2024. But negotiations are ongoing and there is still a chance that something can be worked out.
But even if the two sides reach an agreement, one thing is certain: LIV Golf isn't going anywhere.
