The Missouri Republican became the latest House Republican to announce his retirement.
Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer (R-Missouri) announced Thursday that he will not seek re-election in 2024.

After McCarthy resigns, the Republican majority in the House will officially fall to three seats.

“However, after much discussion with my family, I have decided not to seek re-election and will retire at the end of my term in December.”
Luetkemeyer said he looks forward to “continuing to address” the “myriad issues” of his constituents through the remainder of his term and “addressing the many difficult and serious issues facing our great nation.” .
“There's still a lot of work to do,” Luetkemeyer said. “As we grapple with the many challenges we face, I hope we remember what someone once said: 'The greatness of our country lies not in our Capitol, but in the hearts and homes of our people.'
“That assessment still holds true. As we look to the future, we believe that if we work hard, come together and believe in ourselves, our best days are certainly still ahead.” I am.”
Mr. Luetkemeyer's retirement is the latest in a wave of retirements in this Congress.
Several Republicans and Democrats are leaving Congress in search of higher office and greener pastures.

Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and Republican Reps. Chris Stewart (Utah) and Bill Johnson (Ohio) all resigned before their terms expired.
Disgraced former Rep. George Santos (RN.Y.) was expelled from the House of Representatives late last year.
