Mask mandates were reinstated at medical facilities in Los Angeles County last week.

They are currently in a hospital in New York.

Newsmax reported:

Mask-wearing requirements have been reinstated in New York City hospitals after the number of people hospitalized due to the coronavirus increased by 17%, the New York Daily News reported.

Los Angeles County Health Care Facilities issued a similar requirement last week after Los Angeles County entered the “moderate” level of hospitalizations due to COVID-19, as defined by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, New York state reached a “high” level of respiratory disease (coronavirus, respiratory syncytial virus, influenza) activity on December 29th.

“This is really to protect our patients, staff and community as we see an increase in COVID-19, influenza and respiratory syncytial virus,” NYC Health + Hospitals spokesperson Christopher Miller told the Daily News.

This requirement applies to areas where patients are being treated.

ABC 7 NY reported:

Health Commissioner Dr. Ashwin Vasan said Wednesday that the requirement is for areas of the hospital where patients are being treated.

He said it was also to protect staff from getting sick as the number of patients increases. He said city hospitals are currently coping adequately with patient levels and all hospitals are overwhelmed.

Vasan said mandating mask-wearing is the right move now that the holiday season is over.
