Two brothers in Mississippi are shocked to find a dead body in a warehouse while searching for their missing brother, and they believe it may be his brother's remains.
Jackie and David Edmonds told WLBT-TV What happened when they went to the missing brothers' storage unit behind Simmons Tire and Mini Storage on Broadway Street in Yazoo City.
“when [David] “We unlocked the warehouse building and he got sick,” Jackie Edmunds said. “He started throwing up because he smelled his body.”
The two had been searching for their younger brother, Sam Edmonds, who had been missing for about a month. They discovered the body the day after Christmas.
Yazoo Police Chief Terry Gunn said Yazoo County Coroner Ricky Shivers has not yet been able to positively identify the body.
“There is some speculation that this may be our missing person because the family found this body, but we don't know that at this point. We have not identified the body yet,” Gunn explained.
There are other complications, he said. He said the body was sent to the state crime lab, but there was initially no pathologist available to examine the body.
“There are currently 30 additional autopsy cases being conducted prior to this case,” Gunn said.
“It could have been someone else,” Jackie Edmonds said. “But we don't know. We're going to wait until the autopsy is done to find out.”
Authorities are considering escalating the missing persons case to a homicide investigation, depending on the results of the coroner's examination. Another lead they are tracking is a blue Ford Ranger truck that is believed to have been stolen from the missing man.
“I hope the person who killed my brother is arrested,” Jackie Edmonds said.
Yazoo City is a town of about 10,000 people located about 40 miles northwest of Jackson.
