Rep. Barry Moore (R-Ala.) is among the lawmakers willing to allow a federal government shutdown to force the Biden administration to take steps to strengthen the U.S.-Mexico border. .
Moore, who will face fellow Alabama congressman Rep. Jerry Carl (R-Ala.) in the March 5 Republican primary due to federal court-ordered redistricting for the Alabama state legislature, is from Mobile, Alabama. In an interview on radio FM Talk 106.5, he said he and his Republican colleagues should not act out of fear of how the media or the opposition Democratic Party would react to the shutdown threat.
“We were intimidated by the media and made to fear a government shutdown. But remember, President Trump was able to call it the 'Schumer shutdown,'” Moore said. . “This time we had an opportunity to shut Schumer down. We could pass 12 bills, but instead we'll wait until the end of the year. Listen, I don't care what the bureaucrats in Washington, D.C., or what MSNBC says about me. I'm more scared for the future of the American people and this country than I am for what I'm about to say, Jeff Poor.”
“I want to do what's right for the country. I'm not going to live in fear,” he continued. “I'm going to live in the fight. We're salt, my friends. And we need to slow that decline. And that's our job. We're the salt of this country. We're in this fight to save Bud Light. We don't care what the media says. We don't care what the other side says. We don't care what the left says. The group that shut down Bud Light, Humanity. They want conservative leadership. They're the people who pushed Jason Aldean and “Try That in a Small Town” to number one. This country is home to a group of people who are willing to stand up and fight. I expect the same group of people to do the same for me. Stupidly, I'm going to do that, and if I'm the only “no” vote, I'm the only “no” vote. ”
“But why are we going to continue funding this woke, weaponized government that is targeting American citizens while sending money to foreign countries and having them invade us at our southern border? ” Moore added. “It's time to take a stand. The time is now.”
