Texas Tech leading scorer Pop Isaacs accused in lawsuit of sexual assault of a minor: report

A civil lawsuit has been filed against Texas Tech University sophomore Pop Isaacs for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor. A copy of the lawsuit was first obtained by ESPN.

The alleged incident occurred during the Red Raiders' trip to the Bahamas in November. The team headed to Paradise Island to compete in the Battle 4 Atlantis Basketball Tournament.

The alleged victim was 17 years old at the time. To consent in the Bahamas, an individual must be at least 16 years old. But the complaint says the woman was under the influence at the time, denying her capacity to consent.

The lawsuit seeks $1 million in damages. Texas Tech released a statement Friday saying Isaacs “remains in good condition.”

The complaint also states that the plaintiffs contacted Red Raiders coach Grant McCasland on Dec. 14, who then reported the incident to athletic director Kirby Hocutt and other university officials. It is also stated that. Isaacs has appeared in four games since then.

The school said in a statement that the accusations were “immediately and appropriately” reported to the Title IX Office, which immediately began an investigation.

“We have contacted the Title IX office twice and based on that information, Pop Isaacs remains in good standing and there is no reason to withhold university activities, including competitive basketball,” the athletic department said in a statement. Both were informed,” the statement said.

The school said the Title IX investigation will continue until completed “regardless of any civil litigation.”

The lawsuit was filed in Lubbock County by the parents of a girl who said she was assaulted.

The complaint alleges that Texas Tech boosters purchased alcoholic beverages for Isaacs and his teammates. They were in a room with two girls, ages 17 and 16, according to ESPN. Isaacs and the 17-year-old girl went to another room, where he sexually assaulted her after she “attempted to fight him off,” according to the lawsuit. report.

The Red Raiders played three games in the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament, losing to Villanova before defeating Northern Iowa and Michigan.

Isaacs, a 20-year-old sophomore from Las Vegas, is averaging 15.8 points and 3.4 assists per game. He ranks 10th in the Big 12 in scoring and shares this week's Conference of the Week honors with West Virginia's Raequan Battle.
