Defense gave Bill Belichick a new low

Review of the Jets' 17-3 win over the Patriots on Sunday:

offense

It was a tough day for the offense, with heavy snow and strong winds throughout the game. The Jets relied on running back Breece Hall (37 rushes, 178 yards, 1 TD), and he had a great performance. There were not many other attacks. QB Trevor Siemian (8-for-20, 70 yards, 50 QB rating) struggled all day. He completed a 30-yard pass to Garrett Wilson, the longest throw of the day.

defense

The Jets didn't let the Patriots do anything. Their 119 net yards were the lowest total of Bill Belichick's tenure in New England. QB Bailey Zappe (12 of 30, 88 yards, 2 INTs, 20.1 rating) had a terrible game. The Jets sacked Zappe seven times. Quinnen Williams and Bryce Huff each had two sacks. Tony Adams made a crucial interception in the closing stages to help calm the game.

special teams

Greg Zuerlein had another great game on a tough day for Kicks. He made three field goals, but only missed one. Zerlein only missed three field goals all season. Thomas Morstead punted seven times and kept New England within the 20 three times. The coverage team performed well and didn't give the Patriots a huge advantage.

coaching

The Jets could have stuffed it. For the final month of the season, the Jets had nothing to play for. But while they won three of their final five games and finished with a record of 7-10, that felt like a distant goal after losing five straight. The players are still playing hard for Robert Saleh and he deserves to be praised for his achievements. Defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich had a great season with few letdowns from the defense. Offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett wisely relied on Hall Sunday. He didn't overthink things.
