Authorities said 39-year-old Albert J. Schell Jr. was taken into custody Monday morning.
The shooting happened inside Paddock Mall just two days before Christmas.
The shooting killed David Barron, 40, and injured a woman.
Investigators believe it may have been a targeted attack.
“We do know that the victim had a prior relationship with Mr. Shell,” Ocala Police Chief Mike Balken said at a news conference. “There is no reason to believe this was anything more than a dispute between two people, resolved with a gun in a shopping mall.”
The shell was discovered around 1 a.m. Monday at a home in an area called Florida Highlands, about 20 miles southwest of Ocala.
He was surrounded and surrendered after two hours of negotiations with police.
Authorities have offered a $20,000 reward for information leading to Schell's arrest.
Chief Balken said investigators have received well over 100 tips in the case and a reward is available.
“His criminal history alone shows there was no way he could have committed this crime on the street,” Balken said. “We're going to see him spend the rest of his life behind bars.”
Shell is currently charged with premeditated first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder in Barron's death.
