More than 100 pro-Palestinian protesters demanding a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip were arrested in New York City on Monday after demonstrations blocked traffic on several bridges and the Holland Tunnel around Manhattan.

About 200 protesters gathered around 9 a.m. for demonstrations in tunnels and on bridges in Brooklyn, Manhattan and Williamsburg, the NYPD said.

Photos showed protesters sitting in traffic lanes with their arms tied together with PVC pipes, blocking entrances to tunnels and bridges.

Video showed police using saws to cut through PVC pipes and separate protesters.

Images showed police arresting some of the protesters. Port Authority police announced that 120 protesters were arrested inside the tunnel. It was not immediately clear how many people were arrested at the three bridges.

Actress Susan Sarandon was captured on camera by CBS News at the Manhattan Bridge demonstration. Sarandon was recently fired from her talent agency for making anti-Semitic comments during her previous protests.

“The right to protest does not give us the right to close bridges and tunnels,” New York City Mayor Eric Adams said in his weekly media availability. “But Hamas must be destroyed, they are. [a] terrorist organization. ”

The demonstrators were removed and all three bridges and tunnels had reopened by 11:30 a.m., but police said they expected traffic delays to remain.

Pro-Palestinian demonstrators marched along major highways in major cities across the U.S. to demand a ceasefire, months after Israel launched a military response to the deadly Oct. 7 terrorist attack by Hamas. and bridge traffic was blocked.
