Howard Stern, who has been holed up in a bunker for months during the pandemic, revealed on Monday that he had suspended his SiriusXM show after contracting the coronavirus for the first time.
“Let's see if we can get through this show. We were supposed to be back last week. We weren't,” Stern said. “Because I was infected with the new coronavirus.”
Stern, 69, told the audience, most of whom had contracted the virus at some point (if not several times), that the disease was “really bad.”
“I just want to make an announcement: COVID-19 is really bad,” he said. “You don't want coronavirus. Oh my gosh.”
“Well, I've been through hell…I've never really been this sick,” he added.
Stern also praised the vaccine.
“How scary is this? Can you imagine what would happen without the vaccine?”
To explain the intense paranoia Stern has expressed regarding the coronavirus since 2020, the famous shock jock revealed that he got into an argument with his wife. 2023! — About going to see friends.
“This is driving me crazy. My wife yelled at me last night. We got into a fight.” He said. “You know how paranoid I am about COVID-19. I haven't gotten it and I'm pretty safe, so I really don't want to get it.”
Stern was worried that he would be one of the coronavirus cases and end up in the hospital, or worse.
Everyone says, “Don't worry, it's just a cold for me.” It would probably be worse. you know what i mean? So I'm one of the lucky ones who completely falls apart,” he said.
Stern talked about how the age difference between him and his wife (he's 69 years old, she's 51 years old) could cause tension during the coronavirus outbreak.
“As you may know, my wife is quite a bit younger than I am. And you know, she's not as worried about getting COVID as I am, because, you know, I… Because he’s an older guy,” he said.
“Beth has a lot of plans. She needs to go to the wedding shower, she needs to go to lunch with friends, she needs to go to dinner, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. So we're really trying. We go out to restaurants. We went to an Ed Sheeran concert. We've really come out on the scene. I don't have COVID. No. And I'm like, “You know what?” If you know, you know,” he added. “Then all of a sudden it's announced that there's a new strain of coronavirus and it's on the rise. And, you know, people are being hospitalized. 'It's time to go back into lockdown.' I mean, I just came out and now I'm going back to lockdown! ”
