Rangers send Brennan Othmann back to Hartford after brief NHL taste

The Rangers announced Tuesday that Brennan Osman has been assigned to Hartford of the AHL.

The young forward played all but two shifts in the second period of Monday's disastrous loss to Vancouver, and returned to regular playing time in the third period.

This was Osman's third NHL game, and although he showed promise, he is not ready to fill the role the Rangers need to fill the absence of Kaapo Kakko, who has been out with a leg injury since Nov. 27. It may not be possible.

Kakko participated in Monday morning's skate, and head coach Peter Laviolette said his recovery is progressing, adding, “There are no real limitations.”

The Rangers won't play in St. Louis again until Thursday, but could make another roster move Tuesday to fill Osman's hole.

Osman showed flashes in his short stint with the Rangers, but it is believed he is still developing and would benefit from more playing time in Hartford.
