There is one beverage that has stood the test of time: as a business venture, as a unifier of culture, and even as a driving force in human history. It's beer.
But this popular alcohol is one of the oldest “happy mistakes” in history.
“We don't know if beer was discovered or invented, but it seems like it was probably an accidental discovery,” said archaeologist Matthew Adams. Fox Nation's “World History in Six Glasses.”
Based on the New York Times bestselling book by Tom Standage. “Understanding the history of the world through six glasses” Examine how six beverages changed the course of history. Hollywood legend Dan Aykroyd will be joined by Saturday Night Live alums Jim Belushi, Jon Lovitz, Kevin Nealon and “Cheers” stalwart George Wendt for beer, wine, coffee, tea and more. Discuss soda and spirits.

Although the exact date is unknown, beer is thought to have first been developed around 10,000 BC, when Neolithic people began to settle and build cities.
In a special series currently streaming, Adams explained that beer is probably the product of unintentional fermentation.
“If Neolithic people were making something like porridge or porridge from the grain they harvested, they would mix it with water,” he explained. “If you leave it alone for a few days, something is happening there.”
After stumbling upon this drink, the process was soon “deliberately manipulated” to create beer. Ancient ale continued to play a crucial role in religion, mythology, currency, and social life, especially in Egypt.
Tom Standage, author of A History of the World in Six Glasses, described beer as “the lifeblood of Egyptian civilization.”
“Beer was liquid bread,” Adams added. “It wasn't just a drink. Beer was food.”
