‘Significant’ Concerns over Speaker Mike Johnson’s Ability to Deliver ‘Conservative Wins’

According to reports, House conservatives appear increasingly worried about Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana)'s inability to deliver victories for conservatives.

Johnson, the White House and Congressional leaders on Sunday announced a spending agreement framework to fund the government for the rest of the year.

The spending agreement would follow the spending levels established in the Fiscal Responsibility Act (FRA), the debt ceiling agreement struck by former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) and President Joe Biden. The deal, which includes some cuts to the IRS budget, among other things, has displeased members of the House Freedom Caucus and conservatives in both chambers.

“It’s even worse than we thought. Don’t believe the spin. If you break through the typical Washington calculations, the actual total programmatic spending is $1.658 trillion, not $1.59 trillion. “This is a complete failure,” the Freedom Caucus wrote.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) wrote: This $1.6 trillion budget deal will do nothing to secure borders, deter invasions, or stop a weaponized government from targeting Biden's political opponents or innocent Americans. I can't stand it either. The power of your wallet has so much meaning! ”

Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) told Breitbart News in a statement: Existing funding for Biden's priorities. With $34 trillion in debt and inflation hollowing out America's middle class, Republicans can and must do more than this. ”

Now, it appears there are “well-connected House Republicans” on the scene. Said Punch Bowl News that sentiment is “growing” that Johnson won't be able to pull off a win.

“There are serious concerns being raised about Mike's ability to make the leap to this level and pull off a modest victory. He's starting to feel like he's getting in the way and haunting us,” the Freedom Caucus said. said a House Republican who is not a member. “There have been legitimate criticisms and complaints about Kevin, but Mike is having a hard time getting the job and is even more cornered than McCarthy.”

Punchbowl News said it was “premature” to say that Johnson's term as prime minister was numbered, but the newspaper reported that Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) was “calm” about the “continued series of failures”. He pointed out that he had said that he was having a “conversation”. House Republican Conference.

In November, the Speaker of the House of Commons said the bridge spending bill, also known as a continuing resolution (CR), was “dead”, but now Prime Minister Johnson's strategy is easing public opposition to the bill.

Johnson reportedly acquired reamed The Heritage Foundation issued this statement after conservative groups said they opposed the spending deal and called for HR2, the House-passed border bill, to be included in the spending bill.

“Heritage Action's executive vice president, Ryan Walker, said in a statement Tuesday.

Americans are pleading with Congress to secure our borders and rein in unprecedented government spending and woke policies that are making it hard to buy food, gasoline, and other necessities. As reported, the spending framework does neither. Conservative lawmakers should not support spending bills that perpetuate Biden's destructive economic policies while funding the ongoing invasion at the border.

While we applaud Chairman Johnson's efforts to improve on the previous spending agreement by further reducing IRS spending and recouping some of the wasteful COVID-19 related spending, we believe that the top line numbers are still too high.

He added, “As we negotiate spending for FY24, any bill that addresses or funds border or immigration policy, such as the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) appropriations bill, will include HR2 in its entirety. should,” he added.
