An Ohio mother was arrested Monday on charges that she lied for years about her young daughter as a dying cancer patient, deceiving those trying to help her.
according to to the Noble County Sheriff's Office. Pamela Reed, of Pleasant City, was charged with theft by deception, a fourth-degree felony.
NCSO and Noble County Children Services received a tip about the scam on January 4th. An elementary school nurse at the victim's school alerted detectives after discovering that Reed's daughter was not blind in her right eye, as Reed had claimed.

The nurse contacted the child's health care provider and clarified that “Mr. AR did not have cancer or leukemia, and she had never had cancer or leukemia.''
Sheriff Jason McKee, detectives and Noble County Children's Services subsequently began investigating the allegations and determined the child did not have cancer.
In addition to providing false medical documents to the school, the indictment alleges that Reed shaved the victim's head, submitted to ongoing blood tests, gave her anti-seizure medication, and committed 280 crimes between 2023 and 2024. Reed reportedly told authorities that he continued the fraud because he “liked the support he received as a result.”
The paper noted that it remains unclear whether Ms. Reed's husband was involved in the plot, but that Ms. Reed's two children were taken from her home.
Noble County Court Judge Jennifer Arnold set Mr. Reed's bail at $50,000.
