Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., said he would have asked to hear Hunter Biden speak if he had been present when Democrats introduced their proposal during Wednesday's hearing.
President Biden's son made a surprise appearance at a House Oversight and Accountability Committee markup on Wednesday, sparking a backlash from Republicans.
At one point, Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.) suggested he would vote on hearing from Biden “right now.” Only the Democratic Party raised its hand.
Biggs, a member of two committees that met simultaneously yesterday, including the Oversight Committee, was asked on Fox News why Republican lawmakers did not raise their hands, and said he would have done so had he been present. Stated.
“I was probably on another committee when that incident happened,” Biggs said. “If it were me, I would have raised my hand.”
He added, “I'd really like to hear from Hunter. I'm sure all my colleagues would as well.”
Biggs accused Democrats of wanting to “detract attention” from the issue surrounding the president's son.
“They didn't want to talk much about Hunter Biden.” […] They just wanted to take their mind off it and talk about other things,” he said.
Hunter Biden appeared before the committee was scheduled to approve a resolution holding him in contempt of Congress for failing to comply with a subpoena last month. The younger Biden has been targeted by House Republicans for “spreading influence” while his father was vice president.
The House Oversight and Judiciary Committees on Wednesday voted to advance a contempt of Congress resolution against Hunter Biden.
