Comedian Marc Maron came to comedian Jo Koy's defense during his act. Oh my God! podcast amid backlash from viewers over Koy's Golden Globes opening monologue.
As Breitbart News reported, social media erupted Sunday in reaction to Coy's opening monologue, with some calling it the worst they'd ever seen.Although Coy's opening monologue had a fairly traditional start, when he took a jab at the blockbuster, his joke was significantly unpopular with the live audience. Maron said Coy didn't deserve the backlash, adding that Groves “just doesn't really matter.”
“So, about Jo Koy. Look, I'm not used to enjoying schadenfreude because I'm doing this as a comic, but this guy didn't deserve it.” Maron said. “It doesn't matter when he got the gig or how quickly he got the Groves-sponsored gig. And let's be honest, Groves is fake and it doesn't really matter anyway.”
Maron added that the reason Coy took over as host was because “literally no one” wanted the job, and that he did “ridiculously terrible things… a program that stinks, really no longer interested in anything.” “This is an invalid decision, and for a program that has its own problems.” ”
“So Jo Koy takes this gig, and it's a good paying gig, and he's a comedian. He's experienced. He knows what he's doing. But no one really knows who Jo Koy is,” Maron said. “He's doing well on the outside. He's a big comic, he sells a lot of tickets, he has a community around him, including the Asian community, and he's had success for many years, but [he’s] It's not a name that everyone knows. I think most people don't know who he is. So right away it's unpleasant. ”
Maron felt that Koi's poor reputation was due to its lack of recognition.
“I think Joe's biggest problem was that no one knew enough about who he was,” Maron said. “So they decided to fuck him up. 'Who is this guy? Why him?' Well, he's totally up to the job.”
Jo Koy has refused to apologize in any way.
