The Mets' overwhelming offseason acquisition streak continued Friday, with the team claiming right-hander Max Kranik off waivers from the Pirates.
Pittsburgh selected Kranik after signing Martin Perez last week.
Kranik, 26, underwent Tommy John surgery in June 2022 and missed most of last season, appearing in nine minor league games at the end of the year.
He's out of minor league options and would have to clear waivers again for the Mets to send him, but he has shown some promise in the past.
In his major league debut on June 27, 2021, Kranik pitched five perfect innings before the game was called off due to a rain delay.
To make room on Kranik's 40-man roster, the Mets placed catcher/outfielder Cooper Hamel off waivers from Seattle in December.
Hummel appeared in 10 games for the Mariners last season, all in the outfield.
The Mets continue to have many needs in both the rotation and bullpen, and while not Queen's, both markets are booming.
A day after one of the Mets' potential targets, Brent Suter, signed with the Cincinnati Reds, Jordan Hicks agreed to a four-year, $44 million contract with the San Francisco Giants.
Top free agent Josh Hader remains available, but the Mets have shown no interest.
Robert Stephenson appears to be in a similar category, but left-handed Matt Moore is also a possibility.
Former Mets players David Robertson and Adam Ottavino and former Yankees player Wandy Peralta are also up for sale.
Right-hander John Brebbia is a free agent after a productive year with the Giants.
The Mets made another minor league acquisition on Friday, signing Danny Young to a minor league contract.
The 29-year-old left-hander missed last season with a hip injury, but played in eight games with Atlanta in 2023 and 16 games in Triple-A.
