Nick Saban opens up about new Alabama hire Kalen DeBoer

The University of Alabama has already found its football successor, and he has been recognized by Nick Saban.

On Friday, the program officially announced the acquisition of University of Washington head coach Karen DeBoer, who led the Huskies to this year's College Football Playoff national title game.

DeBoer, 49, who ultimately missed out on the CFP championship, capped one of Washington's program's best seasons by winning the Pac-12 title en route to a 14-1 record. semifinal.

Saban resigned earlier this week, ultimately authorizing Alabama to move quickly to hire DeBoer.

DeBoer arrived at the new campus and led the Huskies to a combined 25-3 record over two seasons, finishing in second and eighth place, respectively.

Prior to his tenure in Washington, DeBoer led Fresno State to a 12-6 record in the 2020 and 2021 seasons, ending his tenure with a victory in the New Mexico Bowl.

DeBoer has a career record of 104-12 as a head coach in college football, including three NAIA national championships with Sioux Falls from 2005-2009 and a five-year He achieved a record of 67 wins and 3 losses.

Saban has been the head coach at Alabama since 2007, leading the program to a 206-29 record and six national championships.
