In an exclusive interview with Johns Hopkins Hospital, Congressman Andy Harris (R-M.D.), who earned his bachelor's and medical degrees from Johns Hopkins University and worked as an anesthesiologist at Johns Hopkins Hospital for 30 years, said: They called on the hospital to fire its radical chief diversity officer. Breitbart News Daily.
In her Monthly Digest emailed to staff, Dr. Sherita Hill-Golden wrote that people, especially men, white people, Christians, and even able-bodied people, “oppress others, regardless of their expressed intent.” He accused them of possessing the “unearned'' privilege of doing so.'' ”
“Privilege is characterized by being invisible to those who have it. People in dominant groups either have already earned the privileges they enjoy or are in the process of acquiring them. “We often believe that anyone can access privilege if they make an effort,” she wrote, naming “privilege” as her Diversity Word of the Month.
Harris believes Golden must go.
“Maybe I'm behind the times,” he told Breitbart News. “I think you should [practice medicine] It is based on science, not diversity, and must not be biased, discriminate, or imply discrimination against anyone. But she clearly feels different. And she, she honestly thinks that's inconsistent with U.S. law. ”

In response to the backlash, Golden issued a statement rescinding the definition of privilege, but did not provide an alternative definition.
“The newsletter included a definition of the word privilege, which upon reflection I deeply regret,” she wrote in a memo obtained by police. daily mailcriticized the definition's wording as “too simplistic and poorly worded.''
“I withdraw and disavow the definition I shared. I am sorry,” it read.
Harris is not condoning a sudden change of heart.
“Look, I can't take back what I said,” he said. “You made a statement, that's what you really believe. What we're trying to find out is what we're trying to address with the leadership of the Hopkins School of Medicine. [to determine] If that is what the leadership of the Hopkins School of Medicine actually believes.
“That is completely unacceptable. There is no appropriate outcome for this other than for her to be fired from Johns Hopkins, just as Dr. Gay was fired from Harvard.”

Harvard University President Claudine Gay is under heavy fire following the anti-Semitism scandal at the Ivy League school, her damning Congressional testimony in which she allowed calls for the genocide of Jews, and subsequent plagiarism allegations against her. He recently resigned after facing backlash.
Harris, whose extensive career at the hospital includes serving as chief of obstetric anesthesiology, believes that a misplaced focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) can negatively impact patient care. I am concerned about this.
“This is an issue that is frequently discussed by many physicians here in the House Republican conference,” he said. “Taking the focus away from medicine and science and focusing on things like diversity is dangerous for American medicine and American health care.”
Professor Harris continued: “We believe that the policies of many medical schools, many hospitals, many institutions are not leading to a dangerous situation in America where we are no longer able to make medical decisions based on real information. I'm very concerned about that.” Science. It's based on something really arbitrary, like the definition of privilege. ”
But Harris is encouraged that the American public's pushback is bearing fruit.
“The result of what happened at Harvard is that even progressives probably aren't going to get up to the mat very much for this. A lot of them are saying, this is overstepping the bounds, when we're talking about academics. I think we recognize that when we're talking about medicine and medicine, there should be benefits that we're talking about. It should be science, especially when it comes to medicine.”
“I think there will soon be a time when backlash against DEI and chief diversity officers will be meaningful.”
Despite the uproar over DEI policy, Harris worries that the US health care system is already damaged.
“I think it's probably affected the quality of medical students, the quality of residents coming out of these institutions. And, again, I think we can still put this genie back in the bottle. It must be done now, and the first step in this case must be to fire the Chief Diversity Officer as this is unacceptable behavior in a society that prides itself on non-discrimination.”
Harris believes Golden's celebration of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy is ironic because Golden doesn't support her radical views on privilege and DEI efforts.
“Calling race as one of the things we should consider or judge people about is exactly what her whole article on privilege was about, and it doesn’t judge people based on their race. That we should judge is the complete antithesis of Martin Luther King, Jr.” I hope Hopkins is ashamed of what this guy did. ”
Mr. Harris' medical experience includes active duty in the Naval Medical Corps and the U.S. Naval Reserve as a lieutenant commander during Operation Desert Storm. He also served as commander of the Johns Hopkins University Naval Reserve Medical Corps from 1989 until 1992.
