Speaker Mike Johnson Shoots Down Lankford’s Senate Immigration Deal

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) poured cold water on Senate negotiators on a border compromise after details of the draft deal were revealed.

  • Provide immediate work permits to all illegal aliens released from detention
  • Taxpayer-Funded Lawyers for Certain UACs and Mentally Incompetent Aliens
  • Expulsion powers limited to a limited number of days only If the number of encounters exceeds 5,000 per day for 7 days
  • Restrict parole for those who enter the country without authorization between ports of entry

Prime Minister Johnson told the House of Lords that the HR2 border security bill passed by the House of Commons must be the basis of any deal.

He said the provisions in the House bill were designed to work together to solve problems, and that if one or more of the key provisions were removed, the bill would be ineffective in stemming the flow of immigrants. Says.
