Brazile on Trump topping Iowa caucus: ‘It’s his to win’

Former Democratic Party Chairwoman Donna Brazile praised former President Trump on Sunday and highlighted his chances of winning the Iowa caucuses on Monday.

Trump has performed well in Iowa's Republican primary, with rivals Gov. Ron DeSantis and former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley hoping extreme weather could reduce the former president's turnout. There is.

“The word on the street is that Donald Trump has learned the lessons of 2016, when he lost the caucuses to Ted Cruz,” Brazil said in an interview with ABC News. “He learned early on that this was an organized event, and he's had a lot of rallies, but he used those rallies to really focus on his home base. ”

She said the effort to organize increases the chances of a strong showing in the caucuses.

“If this was an organized event, he could bring the people to the caucus,” she said. “He could improve turnout.”

Since serving as a party official in the 2008 and 2012 election cycles, including Iowa, Brazile said that in many states that have trended red, the current Democratic Party's focus on organizing its base is He pointed out that the ruling class was lacking.

“When you abandon a state, whether it’s Iowa or Louisiana, you embrace the Republican Party,” she said. “We have abandoned too many states who have tried to focus on winning battleground states without considering future trends.”

“[Iowa is] It's a lot redder than when Barack Obama won the state, but guess what? At the end of the day, this is a ground war and if he has the means to get the people to the caucuses, it's his to win,” she added.

As for the Democratic Party, Brazil encouraged the party's current leadership to get back to basics to ensure victory in 2024.

“I think Democrats have to focus on the ground game,” she continued. “They have to stop worrying about how much money they have in the bank. That's a lot of money. And they have to really focus on getting people to where they are. ”
